Finally, we got more veggies from our garden. One huge vegetable marrow, a couple if smaller ones and finally some cherry tomatoes! It’s been a tough summer. Hardly the weather needed for a successful garden. A bit disappointing after I started so many plants indoors early.

Our good friends Steve and Ang came by yesterday to show us how to make tomato sauce. We had bought a bushel of Roma tomatoes the week before and spread them out on a table in the garage to prevent rotting.

Steve brought over his fathers tomato squishing machine….and we squisha da tomatoes! It was a but of work but in the end it’s well worth the effort to have homemade sauce without any junk in it.

The two bushels we bought made 27 full size mason jars of sauce. Unfortunately, one of the bushels was pretty bad. We threw out a lot and many others needed trimming to cut off bad parts. I’m going to grow more tomato plants next year in hopes we can make our own sauce from our own tomatoes. We can but to supplement but at least the more we can grow the better.

Many thanks to Steve and Ang for all their help yesterday!!

We had a visitor yesterday. A heron. We’ve never seen one at our place so this was pretty neat.

Another milestone in our garden for 2013. Our first vegetable marrow. It appeared beneath some leaves. We picked it yesterday, sliced it up, rubbed a bit of salt and olive oil on it. Then grilled it on the BBQ.

    It was very delicious!!
